2024 Edition Themed SCHOOL LIFE
The Simple Script Writers’ Project started its first edition in 2024 at Breman Asikuma Senior High School, the founder’s alma mater. In the first edition, the theme was “School/Family Life” and we received 20 submissions from the students, and the winners Nhyiraba Kwasi Baah, Gifty Owusuaa Saka, and Trennice Thompson received 2000 Ghana cedis, 1000 Ghana Cedis and 500 cedis Ghana Cedis respectively. The first winner, Nhyiraba Kwasi Baah also received a scholarship which will support him through his university education. We also gave books (non-fiction) to all the students who sent in their submissions.
2025 Edition Themed Ghanaian Historical Fiction / School Life
The team expanded the competition into the mainstream media, since our main goal is not just in senior high schools but for all writers in Ghana to participate. The 2025 competition was divided into two, for high school students and for adults, with different writing requirements. We received 15 submissions in all, some from high school students and a few from adults who had seen it on social media.
Our theme for the 2025 Adult Edition was ‘Ghanaian Historical Fiction’, capped at a maximum of 5000 words and a minimum of 2500 words, which sought to see how writers would be able to learn, research and write their stories on the wings of the many histories that has held the nation up to this moment. The theme for the high school students remained “School life”.
The cash prizes for 2025 were 7000 Ghana Cedis, 4000 Ghana Cedis and 2000 Ghana cedis respectively for the first, second and third winners for adults, and the prizes for the senior high schools were 3000 Ghana Cedis, 1500 Ghana cedis and 1000 Ghana Cedis for the high school students, which was announced and awarded on 27th January, 2026.
The winners were only three ultimate winners in total, and their cash awards were dependent on their position and on whether they were high school students or adults.
